CONGRATULATIONS to our January Youth of the month; Ashley Lounsberry!
Randy Sullivan’s Training Center
Ashley began riding Arabian horses with Randy Sullivan’s Training Center at the age of 8. She fell in love with Arabian horses on that first ride. Ashley received her first Half Arabian Western Pleasure show horse, Colt 45 CCR, at age 10. Ashley and Colt competed successfully at the local, regional and national levels in the Half Arabian Western Pleasure division for five years. Colt is the love of her life and is now retired living in his forever home with Ashley.
Last show season, Ashley has had the pleasure of showing STLA Purple Jade successfully at the local, regional and national level in the Half Arabian Western Pleasure Division. This year, Ashley is looking forward to showing her first pure bred Western Pleasure horse, Milano LRA. In 2018, Ashley is finishing her career as a youth rider and plans to compete at the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show and Youth Nationals in addition to local and regional shows.
Ashley fell in the love with Arabian breed at a young age. She loves the connection she has with each of her horses and the special bond they share. She also loves the spirit and personality of the breed. Ashley is most at home in the barn and loves to care for her horses both at home and help out at Randy Sullivan’s Training Center. Angie and Randy and the staff at RSTC have helped Ashley grow as a rider and person and she thoroughly loves her barn family. At the barn, Ashley is a mentor to the younger riders and a friend to all.
Ashley is currently serving as the Co-Director of the Region XI Arabian Horse Youth Association. In addition to riding and showing Arabian horses, Ashley loves the opportunity to serve in a leadership capacity for the Arabian youth.
In 2017, Ashley was awarded the first Youth Ambassador Award from the Regional XI Arabian Horse Association for her achievement in the show pen and for her community service with the Arabian Horse. Ashley enjoyed the opportunity to trailer an Arabian horse to a nearby nursing home and share her love for the breed with the nursing home residents. She loved watching the residents interact with her horse, seeing the smiles on their faces and hearing their own stories of riding horses in their younger years.
Ashley recently wrote the following about the impact that Arabian horses have had on her life:
“My decision to learn to ride Arabian horses shaped me into the person that I am today. My road to success in the show pen was paved with both failure and determination and the valuable lessons I learned in the saddle will carry me through the rest of my life. Through my set-backs, I learned to never give up and to always pursue my dreams. I learned that hard-work and perseverance pay off, not only in the horse industry, but in real life as well. My work ethic helped me overcome many daunting obstacles and ultimately contributed to my success both in the national show ring and in the classroom. Through riding, I learned to partner and trust something other than myself. I learned that the horses’ well-being comes ahead of everything else regardless of how tired I am. Arabian horses fostered my genuine love for learning which I carry over into the classroom and life in general. Through my time in the saddle, I developed a quiet confidence in myself and my partner. When I make mistakes, I do not get down on myself, rather my mistakes challenge and inspire me to learn and improve. I also learned that success is not always measured by ribbons and roses, it is often achieved in the small victories and satisfaction of a job well done.”
Ashley will be attending college in the Fall of 2018 and plans to major in animal science and pursue a career in veterinarian.
Big thank you to Erin Keegan, Bill Ferry, and Mane event promotions for some of these photos from past and present shows!
